The department of English was founded in 1986 with the establishment of Kamarbandha college in the same year. There were twenty students in the first batch studying English as a subject.Renowned teachers like Debeswar Gogoi, Prof. Hem Phukan ,Late Hanifuddin Ahmed, Lt. Kusheswar Khanikar extended their services to this department.
The Department has started offering Honours in English from 2022 academic session.
The course seeks to enhance the skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, abilities in grammar and create awareness of different genres like short story, poetry, plays. essays, feature articles etc.

The Department, alongwith with the Sexual Harassment Committee, Kamarbandha college, organised on March 20, 2021, an awareness programme on Sexual Harassment. The department also engages students in social activities like plantation, cleaning, Covid-Awareness etc.
